The Panama Canal, was finished in 1914 broke various geographical and engineering barriers, that many said were impossible. Panama is only a 48 mile long land barrier and is most popular for water transportation. All attempts failed to break the physical land barrier until, President Theodore Roosevelt bought the canal in 1902. Then, gave John Frank Stevns the engineering position to finish the canal, making the U.S a world power.
